HANDS CANON PINION HOUR & MINUTE WHEEL
IF THE CANON PINION WERE TO COME LOOSE AND LIFT UP/ HANDS WOULD MOVE FREELY..
. BUT NOT WITH CROWN CROWN WOULD HAVE NO INFLUENCE. IF THE MINUTE HAND CAME LOOSE
IT COULD MOVE HAPHAZARD OR COULD GET “STUCK”ON TOP OF HOUR HAND
IF MINUTE HAND REACTED WITH HEAT AND COLD, THE ILLUMINATION WHICH
TAKES MONTHS TO FULLY DRY COULD ATTACH VIA THE LUMINOUS AND
ATTACH. WHEN TURNING HANDS IT COULD UNSEAT THE
FRICTION FIT OF EITHER HAND.
1- IS THE CENTER SHAFT ON A WATCH WITH SWEEPS SECONDS
THE MAINSPRING TURNS THE WHEEL/GEAR OF #1 WHICH HOLDS THE SECONDS HAND1-
THE CENTER #1 SHAFT ALSO TURNS THE CANON PINION # 2.
THIS IS THE PART THAT RUNS THE HOUR AND MINUTE HAND
THE CANON PINION IS A HOLLOW TUBE WITH A WHEEL/GEAR AT BOTTOM SLIPS OVER CENTER SHAFT
AS THE WATCH RUNS, THE SECOND HAND RUNS AND THE FRICTION BETWEEN THE CENTER SHAFT AND CANON PINION
TURNS THE MINUTE HAND THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE [ 2] CANON PINION.
THE CANON PINION’ S GEAR AT BOTTOM IS CONNECTED TO THE MINUTE WHEEL AND AS IT TURNS THE MINUET HAND
IT ALSO TURNS IT THE MINUTE WHEEL ]RIGHT ABOVE] WHICH TURNS THE ATTACHED REDUCTION GEAR
THAT IS CONNECTED TO THE HOUR WHEEL AND THE HOUR HAND THAT IS ATTACHED.
THE HOUR HAND THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE HOUR WHEEL
IT IS UTTERLY IMPOSSIBLE FOR ANY HAND TO NOT
WORK AS IT SHOULD UNLESS
1- THE MINUTE HAND OR HOUR HAND HAVE
LIFTED OFF THEIR PERSPECTIVE MOUNTS
2- ONE HAND COULD COME LOOSE AND STICK TO ANOTHER
3- A SECONDS HAND COULD COME LOOSE/
HANDS ARE FRICTION FIT, ON VINTAGE WATCHES
ONE MUST USE THE ORIGINAL HANDS
THEY CAN COME LOOSE ESPECIALLY IF SOME ONE
TURNS THE HANDS LIKE THEY ARE A NEW QUARTZ WATCH
IT IS RECOMMENDED TO SLOWLY TURN HANDS
WHET SETTING AND ONLY SET/TURN CLOCK WISE
NEVER COUNTER CLOCKWISE [LEFT] FOR PARTS
HAVE BEEN RUN FOR DECADES ONE WAY.
ALL PARTS CANNOT BE REPLACED.

MEANS SWEEP SECONDS WAS ADDED AFTER
THE TUBE YOU SEE ACTUALLY TURNS THE CANON PINION BY FRICTION
Prior to WWII, most watches had a sub-second register above the #6 position. This design failed to allow precision seconds timing. The sub-second style dial, with a tiny second hand rotating around a tiny seconds register at the 6 position, was difficult to utilize for timing events. In most cases it was ignored. On the other hand, a sweep second hand could be used to time events, mark events, and was easier to read .
By 1942, the sweep second hand watch had became “the” watch. Two of the major reasons were the Government issued U.S.A. A-11 hacking sweep seconds pilots watch and the sweep seconds watches in demand by Doctors, Medics and Nurses and other professionals.. The sweep second watch simply made the watch more than an instrument to “tell time”….
So, what did Pierce and others do?
Did they re-tool and re-design new movements? NO!
They simply placed a hollow canon pinion that allowed a wheeled center shaft to protrude through the dial, mounted a second hand to it, and ran the combo with the very sub-seconds wheel they were eliminating…

Instead of the drive train turning the dial protruding shaft/pinion at 6 position connected to the tiny second hand, they mounted a large brass/alloy wheel on the opposite side of the shaft that now protruded through the bridge. That wheel turned a wheel on top of a NEW center “shaft’ held in position be a new this jeweled bridge that went through a new HOLLOW center cannon pinion in the center of the movement that then protruded through the center of the dial where a new long sweep second hand attached; the idea being that one had a large second hand that went round in tune with the movement and the chapter ring so one could count, time & no
